Tuckasegee River Trout Float Trips
The Tuckasegee River near Bryson City is the centerpiece of our trout float fishing program and one of Western North Carolina’s premier trout fisheries. Its large size, productive Delayed Harvest waters and excellent populations of rainbow, brown and brook trout make the Tuck an ideal river to fish from a drift boat or raft.
The Tuckasegee River is a fantastic western sized river that offers plenty of diversity in fishing options. With numerous fish species, and two Delayed Harvest sections with up to 34,500 trout per mile near Bryson City, the Tuckasegee River is a complete year around fishery! Not only is the ‘Tuck” a fine trout fishery, it’s also home to numerous species of fish including Smallmouth bass and Walleye. The Tuckasegee is a tailwater, meaning water releases from a couple dams upriver help keep the water cold and well oxygenated making a great habitat for trout. Good populations of wild trout combined with numerous areas that are stocked by the state make the Tuck a great place to visit and try your luck.

Our 5-Hour Float Trip Special is one of our best values for trout fishing the Tuckasegee River. You’ll get more time on the water than a traditional half-day trip, giving your guide more opportunity to cover productive stretches of river and put you on fish. Our Full-Day Float Trip is for anglers who want to make the most of a day on the Tuckasegee River. With eight hours on the water, we can cover more river, explore different sections and adjust throughout the day as fishing conditions change. Twilight Drifters Night Float Trips
When the hot days of summer push big trout into feeding after dark, our Twilight Drifters trips offer a completely different way to fish the Tuckasegee River. We target large predator trout with mouse patterns and streamers along banks, shallow water and shoreline cover. These trips are geared toward anglers looking for the excitement of chasing big trout after dark and some of the most explosive strikes of the summer.
Beginner & Group Float Trips
You don’t need to be an experienced fly fisherman to enjoy a float trip. Our guides work with beginners, families and experienced anglers, and with multiple boats available we can also accommodate larger groups. Each boat fishes up to two anglers, keeping your trip private and allowing your guide to give you plenty of individual attention.
