Float Trip for Trout
The Tuckasegee River is a fantastic western sized river that offers plenty of diversity in fishing options. With numerous fish species, and two Delayed Harvest sections with up to 34,500 trout per mile near Bryson City, the Tuckasegee River is a complete year around fishery! Not only is the ‘Tuck” a fine trout fishery, it’s also home to numerous species of fish including Smallmouth bass and Walleye. The Tuckasegee is a tailwater, meaning water releases from a couple dams upriver help keep the water cold and well oxygenated making a great habitat for trout. Good populations of wild trout combined with numerous areas that are stocked by the state make the Tuck a great place to visit and try your luck.
We have guided more trips down the “Tuck” and “Little T” than any other outfitter in Western North Carolina. Our staff knows every rock and secret fishing hole on these rivers. Head guide Eugene Shuler grew up on the banks of the Tuckasegee River, and knows it like the back of his hand. To date he has guided more than 5,000 Float Trips down the Tuckasegee River, nearly double of any other guide or outfitter in the area.
Fly Fishing the Smokies offers guided Fly Fishing and Light Tackle Spin Fishing trips on the Tuckasegee River, Little Tennessee River, Oconoluftee River, and Fontana Lake.
